Year: Final
Part of the year: Full Year
Module Leader: Nicole Thiara
Assessments:
Description:
Description: The dissertation represents a unique opportunity in your degree to explore a subject over a sustained period of time and in depth. You will be able to choose a topic in which you have a special interest, whether or not it is covered by other modules on offer, to get to grips with it, to read around it and to produce an argument of your own. You will also have the chance to discuss your ideas with your dissertation tutor, perhaps in a more systematic and specialised way than in the seminar and tutorial discussions you have already experienced.
This module requires students to identify an appropriate topic and, under supervision, to collect and analyse the relevant material. You will be required to identify a problem or issue(s) in a given area, establish competing points of view, present evidence in support of and against various positions which might be taken up with regard to the problem or issue, and reach a conclusion consistent with the evidence and arguments you have presented.
Prerequisites: N/A
Teaching methods/structure:
Over the year you are entitled to 10 hours of individual tutorial supervision and 12 hours of workshop time. The workshops include interactive elements, workshopping of exemplars and draft chapters, training in relevant research skills and a careers session.
