About eSubmission

What is eSubmission?

eSubmission refers to a range of electronic routes for the submission of students' work. Electronic formats include text, audio, image-based, zipped files and video work.

The main submission route at NTU is via NOW using the Dropbox tool. This lets you create individual or group folders where students can upload their work. Times and dates of their uploads are recorded and receipted by the system. It also provides a place to share feedback.

Turnitin integration

TurnitinUK is text-matching software that compares submitted text against a large international database of previously submitted work and publications. A summary report is produced. While it is possible to submit work manually to TurnitinUK, a key advantage for the NOW Dropbox tool is its integration with the TurnitinUK service. This means a Dropbox can be easily set up to automatically process submissions to TurnitinUK and return the report to the Dropbox. Turnitin submissions are limited to 20Mb. (see Using Turnitin below).

Other submission routes

Student work can also be submitted through email, although, for Turnitin checking, the tutor would need to arrange to submit the work separately. For large file submissions, DVDs are best.

When compared to paper-based submission, eSubmission has a number of potential benefits for staff and students. Because it is part of the University's network, data is securely backed up. Also, it can help create a more streamlined submission experience for everyone involved because:
