What do we mean by using audio, video and images

A number of audio, video and image options are available for you to use in your NOW Learning Room. These include sound files (audio), videos (screencasts, video recordings) and images (photos, diagrams, pictures).

Audio, video and images may be used in three main ways in your NOW Learning Room:

  1. Inserting audio, video & images throughout your Learning Room

Audio, video and images may be inserted into your Learning Room using the NOW HTML Editor and is applicable to all the areas of NOW where the HTML editor is available.
  1. Providing web links to audio, video and images that already exist online or Quicklinks to Learning Room files.

Links can be created to either audio, video or image resources that exist online, e.g. in an audio or video library or repository, or to Learning Room files which have previously been added to the File Store.
  1. Embedding audio, video and images in your Learning Room using embed information from a sharing website e.g. YouTubeNew Window Icon: Indicates that link will open in a new browser window, FlickrNew Window Icon: Indicates that link will open in a new browser window. For a fuller list of popular sharing websites see the table presented in Supplementary Resources.

Embed information can usually be found on sharing websites by locating and selecting the 'Embed' button. The image below illustrates the embed button and embed information that can be seen in Youtube.

Can you make use of content that already exists?

Reusing a particular piece of content that has been created previously may be appropriate to your module or programme. There are an increasing number of such resources available for educational use, details of useful sources and ways of reusing can be found in Finding and reusing learning resources.
