PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document format which allows users to open and view its contents using free software called Adobe Reader. PDF has a number of advantages over Microsoft Word, the most notable being its portability. Word documents may change when opened, depending upon the version of Word used, the fonts (typefaces) installed, and whether a PC or Mac is being used. By contrast, if you save your document in PDF format (you can do this within Word), all formatting will stay exactly as it is. PDFs will also open on both PCs and Macs without any problems.
